THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATER-DAY
SAINTS (the
Mormons)
The
Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints, hereafter referred to as the
Mormons, is a sudo-Christian religion that has gained acceptance because of its
family values appearance. Through their TV ads, one in encouraged to contact
them, thereby receiving a new Bible. However, soon after receiving the Bible, a
Book of Mormon, falsely claimed to be an extension of the Bible, will become
the center of study, replacing the Bible all together. Because the Mormon
religion denies the essential Biblical teachings concerning salvation, it, like
all cults, leads it subjects away from God's saving grace into a false teaching
that captivates their eternal souls.
Below, I shall do a comparative study of the Mormon religion's central
teachings that are contrary to Scripture. It is important that you study this
material for yourselves. If you go to the leadership in your ward, they will
immediately discount the information contained herein and instruct you to not
peruse this any further.
Doctrinal Comparison – Mormons vs. the Word of God
What Mormons teach |
What the Bible teaches |
Scripture References* |
There are many gods. Mormons are polytheistic. They reject the
Trinity completely. |
There is one God. He is manifested in three persons, God the
Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. There are no other gods but the God
of the Bible. Christianity is monotheistic. |
Deuteronomy 6:4 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our
God, the LORD is one! 1Corinthians 8:6 … there is one God, the
Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus
Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live. Deuteronomy 4:35 To you it was shown, that you
might know that the LORD Himself is God; there is none other besides Him. Revelation 1:17-18 And when I saw Him, I fell at
His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, "Do
not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. (18) I am He who lives, and was
dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore … John 14:8-9 Philip said to Him, "Lord,
show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us." Jesus said to him,
"Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He
who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the
Father'? John 14:16-18 And I will pray the Father, and He
will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever-- the Spirit
of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor
knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I
will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. Acts 5:3-4 But Peter said, "Ananias, why
has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit … |
Mormons will become gods themselves. |
There is not one verse, or implied statement in the Bible that
tells us we will one day become gods ourselves. This is a complete
fabrication of the Mormon leadership over the years. In Christ, we become children of God, becoming heirs and join
heirs with Him. Jesus will always be our Lord and God, not we ourselves. |
Romans 8:16-17 The Spirit Himself bears witness
with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then
heirs--heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with
Him, that we may also be glorified together. |
God is like a man, having a body like ours. Quoting Mormon
Apostle Orson Hyde, “Remember that God, our heavenly Father, was perhaps once
a child, and mortal lie we ourselves, and rose step by step in the scale of
progress, in the school of advancement; has moved forward and overcome, until
He has arrived at the point where He is now. |
Scripture tells us that God is a spirit, and those who worship
Him must do so in spirit and truth. |
John 4:24 God is Spirit, and those who
worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." 2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and
where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. |
Rejects salvation by grace thru faith by adding stipulations
to it, those being baptism into the Mormon religion, and enduring to the end
in keeping the commandments of God, that is, as defined by the Mormon
leadership. They teach universal salvation, that all men will be saved,
but each one in his own order. |
The Bible tells us salvation is by grace through faith,
period. Not of works. Our salvation is accomplished without any human merit.
One cannot work to get it, or work to keep it. |
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved
through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, (9) not of
works, lest anyone should boast. Galatians 2:16 knowing that a man is not
justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have
believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and
not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be
justified. |
Rejects the Priesthood of the Believer. Hold on to the Old
Testament Aaronic Priesthood and the Priesthood of Melchizedek. |
The Aaronic priesthood was done away with, and the Melchizedek
priesthood was fulfilled in Christ. After Christ death on the cross, all
priesthood orders was done away with. Their a no priests today, as Jesus in our eternal High
Priest. Scripture teaches that all who have put their trust in Jesus,
having gained salvation, are priests. As priests, we can to
directly to God in prayer, and we can intercede for others through prayer. We
no longer need another man in whom we must go through. Those in the Mormon religion who claim to be of the order of
any priesthood are not only presumptuous, but misleading those they teach. |
Revelation 1:5-6 … To Him (Jesus) who loved us and
washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests
to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a
royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may
proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous
light; |
Practice baptism by proxy. That is, Mormons baptize for the
dead, providing salvation, since baptism is required for salvation. |
The Bible is clear that one’s state cannot be changed after
death. They cannot return, and they cannot have their eternal state altered.
A man dies once, and then the judgment. |
Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed for men to
die once, but after this the judgment, Revelation 20:11-15 Then I saw a great white throne and Him
who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there
was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing
before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the
Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the
things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in
it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were
judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into
the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in
the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. |
In the virgin birth of Jesus, God came down as a man and had
sexual relations with Mary, thereby giving birth to Jesus. As a side note, Mormons teach that Jesus had three wives, two
Maries and Martha. And, he by them had children. |
This is absolute heresy and far from what is revealed in
Scripture. Mary conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, without any human
agent. Jesus never married and never fathered any children. Not one
word in Scripture supports this nonsense. |
Matthew 1:18-20 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows:
After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she
was found with child of the Holy
Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to
make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he
thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a
dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you
Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. |
The Mormon religion has added three books to what they deem
Scripture. The Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and The
Pear of Great Price. All three have final authority over the Bible, when
they conflict. |
Claiming the Book of Mormon pre-dates the King James version
of the Bible, they cannot explain why there are over a thousand direct quotes
from the King James version in the Book of Mormon. Scripture forbids any adding or altering of its content. |
Revelation 22:18-19 For I testify to everyone who
hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things,
God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone
takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away
his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which
are written in this book. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture (the Bible) is given by
inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for
every good work. |

NOTE TO THE READER
This
religion is a hodge-podge of teachings that accommodates men's sinfulness. From
Joseph Smith to Brigham Young, from the content of the three Mormon books
claimed to be divine scripture, this is all nothing but delusional teachings of
men. Celestial wives, multiple wives, mysticism in the Salt Lake temple, all of
this feeds the fleshly drives of immoral men. The information above only
scratches the service of the Mormon religion's false teachings.
Every
cult in the world has three things in common:
1. They
deny salvation by grace – one must work for his salvation
2. They
deny the priesthood of the believer – on cannot understand the Bible, so someone
else tells them what to believe. They cannot go directly to God, but must go
through someone else for confirmation.
3. They
deny the eternal security of the believer – They must work to keep their
salvation, once they perceive they have it.
The
Mormon religion falls right into this group. They are what is called a
pseudo-Christian religion. They have a veneer that looks like Christianity, but
is in reality a false religion…a cult. The simple in terms of Bible knowledge
and the un-aware are easily pulled in.
Scripture
makes it very clear of the danger and severity of anyone that changes the truth
regarding salvation by grace and grace only:
Galatians 1:8-9 But though we, or an
angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached
unto you, let him be accursed. (9) As we said before, so say I now again, If
any man preach any other gospel
unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
However,
it is our responsibility to pray for them, that they may come to the saving
knowledge of Jesus Christ, and remove themselves from this cult.
Remember,
a man will go to any length to keep from saying those three life changing
words.... “I have sinned”.
