JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES
The Jehovah’s Witnesses
religion was founded by Charles Taze Russell in 1870.
He drew from the teachings of the Seventh-Day Adventism, Christadelphianism,
mixed with his own interpretation of the Bible. The religion is headed by the Watch-tower
Bible and Tract Society, hereafter referred to as the Watch-tower Society, a
group of men who wield absolute authority over the members.
There have been six
presidents, beginning with Charles Russell and ending with the present
president, Don Adams. Because each one has had governing authority, these
presidential ‘periods’ have been influenced by their own personalities and
Bible interpretation, often creating contradictory teaching within the society
itself, disharmony, and at times abandonment.
Over the years, the society
has been publishing its Watchtower magazines, pamphlets, and its flagship
publication, the New World Translation, which is not a translation at all, but
a re-write of the Bible, to support their teachings. These publications hold
higher authority over the Bible, God's Holy Word. In referring to the New World
Translation, Dr. Julius Mantey states, "I
haven't read any translation that is as diabolical and as damnable as the JW
so-called translation....They (the Society) hate Jesus Christ." When you
total the changes made in regard to the person of Jesus Christ, one can't help
but draw that conclusion.
The information contained
herein is in no way an attempt to judge those caught in this cult. Because they
are discouraged from reading and studying the Bible for themselves, they have
no avenue by which to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, and His
salvation offered them by grace through faith, alone...full, free and complete.
Perhaps, if just one member,
as the result of reading this material, decides to study the Scriptures in
spite of the Watch-tower Society’s disapproval, and in
doing so finds eternal life promised within its pages, then this has all been
worthwhile.
Doctrinal Comparison – Jehovah’s Witnesses vs. the Word of God
What
Jehovah’s Witnesses teach |

||
Myth: Jesus was created |
||
Jesus was created…He had a beginning. He was the first
creation of God, the Archangel Michael |
Jesus was not created. He has always existed…..from
everlasting to everlasting. He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the
End. The Incarnate Christ has no beginning. There are no references anywhere in Scripture indicating that
the angel Michael became anything other than Michael the angel. This was
strictly the invention of Mr. Russell and his followers. |
Micah 5:2 "But you,
Bethlehem Ephrata, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet
out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings
forth are from of old, From everlasting." John 1:1-3 In the beginning was
the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (2) He was in the
beginning with God. (3) All things were made through Him, and without Him
nothing was made that was made. Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is
born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting
Father, Prince of Peace. Revelation 1:7-8 Behold, He is coming
with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all
the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen. (8) "I
am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End," says the Lord,
"who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." |

||
Myth: The Trinity (Triune God) does not exist |
||
Completely reject the Trinity, often to the point of
hostility. They teach that Christians worship three gods. NOTE: In the John 1:1
reference, the Watch Tower book "The New World
Translation", the Jehovah Witnesses have changed the verse from
“and the Word was God” to read “and the Word was a God”.
Although this is not in the original Greek, inserting the word ‘a’ changes everything. |
The word Trinity does not appear in Scripture. But the revelation
of a triune God appears all through the Bible. Christians do not worship many
gods. They worship one God, who manifests Himself in three persons….God the
Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the second person of
the Godhead. In the Old Testament, God revealed Himself as the Father. In
the New Testament, God reveled Himself as the Son. And, during the Church Age
(that’s now), He is manifesting himself in the
Person of the Holy Spirit. |
God the Father: 1 Corinthians 8:6 yet for us there is one
God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus
Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live. Luke 11:2 So He said to them,
"When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your
kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. God the Son: John 14:9 Jesus said to him,
"Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He
who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the
Father'? John 5:18 Therefore the Jews
sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but
also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God. John 20:28 And Thomas answered
and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" John 1:1-3 In the beginning was
the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (2) He was in the
beginning with God. (3) All things were made through Him, and without Him
nothing was made that was made. Matthew 1:23 "BEHOLD, THE
VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD, AND BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME
IMMANUEL," which is translated, "God with us." Titus 2:13 looking for the
blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,... 2 Peter 1:1-2 Simon Peter, a
bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like
precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus
Christ: (2) Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and
of Jesus our Lord, God the Holy Spirit: John 14:16-18 And I will pray the
Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you
forever-- (17) the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it
neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and
will be in you. (18) I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. Acts 5:3-4 But Peter said,
"Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and
keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? (4) While it remained,
was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control?
Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but
to God." |

Myth: Jesus did not rise bodily from the grave. |
||
Do not believe Jesus rose bodily from
the grave…only His spirit, which was converted back to the Archangel Michael. |
Jesus bodily rose from the grave. He did what we could not
do…..He conquered death and the grave, on our behalf. The stone was not removed
from the grave so He could get out….it was removed so we could see in….that
is, into an empty tomb. |
John 2:19-21 Jesus answered and
said to them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it
up." (20) Then the Jews said, "It has taken forty-six years to
build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?" (21) But He
was speaking of the temple of His body. 1 Corinthians 15:17 And if Christ is not
risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! John 20:24-28 Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. (25) The other disciples
therefore said to him, "We have seen the Lord." So he said to them,
"Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger
into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not
believe." (26) And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and
Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst,
and said, "Peace to you!" (27) Then He said to Thomas, "Reach
your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it
into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing." (28) And Thomas
answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" Matthew 28:6 He is not here; for He
is risen, as He said. Come,
see the place where the Lord lay. Mark 16:6 But he said to them,
"Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is
risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid
Him. Luke 24:6-8 He is not here, but is
risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, (7) saying,
'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be
crucified, and the third day rise again.' " (8)
And they remembered His words. |

Myth: Salvation is not a free gift by grace |
||
Rejects salvation by grace thru faith and the eternal security
of the believer….one must work to get it and work to keep it. |
Having paid for our sins in total, past, present, and future,
by His death on the cross, those who put their trust in Him are secure
forever. There was nothing I could do to gain my salvation, and there is
nothing I can do keep my salvation…..it was all accomplished on the cross,
paid in full. My eternal security is not in my strength, but in His finished
work. |
Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace you have been saved through
faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, (9) not of works,
lest anyone should boast. (10) For we are His workmanship, created in Christ
Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in
them. John 3:16 For God so loved the
world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should
not perish but have everlasting life. John 10:28-29 And I give them
eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them
out of My hand. (29) My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than
all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. Ephesians 1:12-14 that we who first
trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. (13) In Him you also
trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in
whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
(14) who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the
purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. |

NOTE TO THE READER
Every
cult in the world has three things in common:
1. They
deny salvation by grace – one must work for his salvation.
2. They
deny the priesthood of the believer – one cannot understand the Bible, so
someone else tells them what to believe (that being the Watch Tower Society in
this case). They cannot go directly to God, but must go through someone else
for confirmation and truth.
3. They
deny the eternal security of the believer – They must work to keep their
salvation, once they perceive they have it.
The
religion of the Jehovah’s Witnesses falls right into this group. They are what
are called a pseudo-Christian religion. They have a veneer that looks like
Christianity, but is in reality a false religion…a cult. The simple Bible
knowledge and the un-aware are easily pulled in.
Scripture
makes it very clear of the danger and severity of anyone that changes the truth
regarding salvation by grace and grace alone:
Galatians 1:8-9 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other
gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
(9) As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach
any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed
(damned).
If you
are a Christian, it is our responsibility to pray for them, that they may come
to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, and remove themselves from this cult.
Remember,
a man will go to any length to keep from saying those three life changing
words.... “I have sinned”.
